BlackBerry Tip: Change the font

-
Hi-fx design

In celebration of BBGeeks’ four-year anniversary, and in celebration of my first real vacation in six years, we’re reaching into our archives and hoisting some quick tips that we haven’t revisited in a while. These are the bare bones essentials, so if you’re a long-time geek you’ll probably know these. If you’re new, take notes. They can make your life easier.
We review tons of BlackBerry themes on this site. If you’re a fan of changing up your theme frequently, you’ve probably read a few of them. If you haven’t, though, I’ll let you in on a secret: there are lots of good themes that use terrible fonts. You might find a theme you think is perfect, but it comes with comic sans font. Or maybe it’s just a font you aren’t comfortable reading. Thankfully, if you like the theme but not the font there’s an easy fix.

On the older operating systems, you’ll go to Options -> Screen/Keyboard. From there you can customize the font in any way you want. This includes the family (e.g., Courier), size, and style. This lets you customize the font in almost any way, so you can read comfortably on your BlackBerry. In OS 6 you’ll find it under Options -> Display ->Screen Display. There is also an option for smoothing in OS 6.
If you want to get more fonts on your device, you can get Font Master from App World. There used to be a useful app called FontCollection, but that appears to have disappeared from both the BBGeeks Store and App World.

One Response so far.
