BlackBerry Tip: Delete an entry or contact from your call history

In celebration of BBGeeks’ four-year anniversary, and in celebration of my first real vacation in six years, we’re reaching into our archives and hoisting some quick tips that we haven’t revisited in a while. These are the bare bones essentials, so if you’re a long-time geek you’ll probably know these. If you’re new, take notes. They can make your life easier.
Is your BlackBerry safe? That is, might someone else get a chance to look at it? I know plenty of consumer BlackBerry users who don’t password protect their devices, because there isn’t any corporate information on it and because password protecting is a pain. For these folks I always recommend the app BlackBook, because it completely hides some contacts from view. If you don’t want to take that route, though, you still might find an occasion where you want to delete an entry from your call history. That’s pretty simple, thankfully

Deleting a single entry from your call log is easy. Just open up the call log by hitting the Send key, scroll to the contact, hit menu, and select Delete. That will remove your call history with that contact. I’ve heard some people complain that when you receive a call from or place another call to that contact, that the call history respawns. I have not seen this personally, but it might be an OS issue.
Of course, calls aren’t the only way to communicate with people. If you want to delete all communications with a single contact, you can do it through your address book. Once you’re on the contact’s page, click menu and then select Activity Log. That will bring up your history with the contact, including calls, texts and emails. From here you can remove all of those communications using the Delete Prior option on the menu.

BlackBerry Tip: Change the font

In celebration of BBGeeks’ four-year anniversary, and in celebration of my first real vacation in six years, we’re reaching into our archives and hoisting some quick tips that we haven’t revisited in a while. These are the bare bones essentials, so if you’re a long-time geek you’ll probably know these. If you’re new, take notes. They can make your life easier.
We review tons of BlackBerry themes on this site. If you’re a fan of changing up your theme frequently, you’ve probably read a few of them. If you haven’t, though, I’ll let you in on a secret: there are lots of good themes that use terrible fonts. You might find a theme you think is perfect, but it comes with comic sans font. Or maybe it’s just a font you aren’t comfortable reading. Thankfully, if you like the theme but not the font there’s an easy fix.

On the older operating systems, you’ll go to Options -> Screen/Keyboard. From there you can customize the font in any way you want. This includes the family (e.g., Courier), size, and style. This lets you customize the font in almost any way, so you can read comfortably on your BlackBerry. In OS 6 you’ll find it under Options -> Display ->Screen Display. There is also an option for smoothing in OS 6.
If you want to get more fonts on your device, you can get Font Master from App World. There used to be a useful app called FontCollection, but that appears to have disappeared from both the BBGeeks Store and App World.
